CHAPTER 28 – Networks, Local Meetings before 2000

The last seconds of midnight before January first 2000, passed over tracked from the island in the pacific, Caroline Island, now Millennium Island, claimed by the republic of Kiribati to be the first to greet the New Year, to fireworks over Sydney Opera House marking a new millennial dawn, although the real dawn was still hours away. And nothing changed. No Millennium Bug, no new war, no global destruction, but the temporary uniting of people across the globe…how many stood to reflect at the twelve chimes in the middle of the night? How many beginnings, births, endings in those hours?

To Daniel, Dan had become less substantial, slightly less real. But it was Daniel fading, passing away slowly into the background of dreams, of all he’d ever wanted and wished for at the new millennium.

‘We have to plan for the future, think 2040, with 2020 as a stepping stone.’

Dan remembered Daniel’s words. And they would, there were groups clustering naturally, nationally: action groups, neighbourhood groups, community groups, groups with spirit at their heart and they would carry on the word, linked to the Hub which had become Horizon 2040, because they wanted to be, not because it was what they should do, but because it was love.

And their words were to open the gates to the heart, to register the connections which take the present back through all of life to the origins of the universe, the links through genes, through DNA, to the first organisms, to the minerals and salts of a new world, the dust of stars, the moment of being, made manifest.
